Balancing Light and Shadow: Honoring Mabon
Mabon, also known as the autumn equinox, marks the moment when day and night stand in perfect balance before the light gives way to the darker half of the year. It’s a time to pause, reflect, and honor both the abundance of the harvest and the turning inward that comes with the cooler months ahead.
Traditionally, Mabon is celebrated by gathering with loved ones, giving thanks for the blessings of the season, and preparing the spirit and home for the slower rhythms of autumn.
Here are a few simple ways to celebrate Mabon:
Create a gratitude ritual—write down what you’re thankful for and keep it on your altar or in a journal.
Decorate your home with seasonal treasures such as apples, pumpkins, leaves, and acorns.
Prepare a harvest meal with locally grown produce, sharing it with friends or family if you can.
Light candles to symbolize balance and the transition into the darker months.
Spend quiet time in nature, noticing the shift in the air and the beauty of the changing leaves.
Mabon reminds us that balance is fleeting, and that letting go is just as sacred as abundance. By honoring this turn of the wheel, we step more gracefully into the season of rest and reflection.
